Owner reunited with dog who vanished seven years ago
A dog owner who was separated with his "best friend" for seven years has been reunited with his beloved pet.
Jim Gardiakos' English staffie, Mia, jumped over the six foot fence of his Altona Meadows home in December 2010 and never returned.
The distraught pet owner launched a large search for the two-year-old dog, putting flyers up around the neighbourhood, but his efforts to find her were unsuccessful.
"I was devastated for months," Mr Gardiakos' told 9NEWS.
"I drove around everywhere for months."
"At night I walked around, I put flyers everywhere."
But the struggle to find her didn't end there – the person who brought Mia to the vet left with her and due to privacy reasons, the pet registry were not allowed to tell Mr Gardiakos where she was.
"Getting the information about where she was seemed impossible."
Eventually volunteers from Lost in the West were able to find the property where Mia was and brought his dog back.
"It was tearful seeing her, but it’s good, she's excellent,"
"It was a big relief."
"I think she recognised me, she seemed to know where home was."
Besides being a bit older and a little slower, Mr Gardiakos still thinks she’s perfect.
"I still can't believe she's back after such a long time."
Good news alright,
One of my favourite dogs.

Staffie = tick on steroids
I don't really have a favourite breed of dog. Probably the best dog we ever had was a daschund. Most of the dogs we had over the years are only memorable for all the wrong reasons.
I am very happy at this stage of life to be pet free.
