Franco-Dutch firm reportedly set to make Britain's post-Brexit passports
user posted image

The blue British passports to be used after Brexit, hailed as an expression of "independence and sovereignty", will be made by a Franco-Dutch firm, according to the boss of the English company which lost the contract to produce them.

The news has produced awkward headlines for Prime Minister Theresa May, who announced in December that Britain, which adopted burgundy passports in 1988 in line with EU recommendations, would switch back to the "iconic" dark blue it had used for decades.

British passports are currently made by De La Rue, which despite its French name is a British company that prints them in northern England.

But the company's chief executive said it lost the tender for the new version after being undercut on price.

The Sun newspaper reported that Franco-Dutch company Gemalto was awarded the passport deal worth $897 million.

They must have consulted with the Australian Government.

The 'finder's fee' on a $897 Million contract must be substantial. http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/biggrin.gif
