ABC censured for calling Tony Abbott 'most destructive politician' [/SIZE]

Andrew Probyn joined the ABC in 2017.

ABC's television news division has been censured for describing Tony Abbott as "the most destructive politician of his generation".

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) found the ABC breached its impartiality obligations by using this "pejorative" term.

A news segment describing Tony Abbott as 'destructive' has breached industry codes.

In an ABC News report - broadcast nationally on October 10 last year - political editor Andrew Probyn analysed a speech Abbott gave to the conservative Global Warming Policy Foundation.

During the segment, Probyn told viewers: "Tony Abbott - already the most destructive politician of his generation - now intends waging war on what he calls ‘environmental theology’."

The broadcasting watchdog deemed this statement to be "judgmental" and "declarative".

In the initial complaint to ABC's management, the viewer wrote: "Andrew Probyn unashamedly proclaimed Mr Tony Abbott as 'the most destructive politician of his generation'! This was the nightly NEWS - not an editorial, not Q&A, not 7.30 and not any other platform which invites journalists to voice their personal opinions.

"We were supposed to be listening to an objective report of Tony Abbott's speech in the UK, not listen to a political activist masquerading as a journalist editorialising."

In its response, the ABC said Abbott's stance on climate change "appeared to be out of step not only with his own government, but with most governments around the world and with mainstream peer reviewed science."

The national broadcaster added that the term "destructive" - according to the Macquarie Dictionary - means "tending to overthrow, disprove, or discredit".

"It is the case that Mr Abbott over his long political career has succeeded in overthrowing his political and ideological opponents, and in his speech to the [Global Warming Policy Foundation] he sought to discredit or disprove the consensus on climate science. In the highly competitive context of federal politics, 'destructive' is not necessarily a pejorative descriptor ... We have concluded that Mr Probyn’s analysis was duly impartial and in keeping with the ABC’s editorial standards."

It appears that the ABC is just like the banks and paedophiles; unaccountable and non repentant.

The bigger problem is that you can throw the rest of the main stream media and journalists in with them. http://fairdinkumnewschat.b1.jcink.com/uploads/fairdinkumnewschat/smiley_don_t_know.gif

There is very little difference between all of them. Their left wing progressive bias becomes more obvious and more blatant each year. http://fairdinkumnewschat.b1.jcink.com/uploads/fairdinkumnewschat/smiley_IMHO.png

From Ruperts Rags and SkyTV
"We have concluded that Andrew Bolt's/Peta Credlin/et al analysis was duly impartial and in keeping with the Rupert’s editorial standards.""

Except that NewsCorpse have no editorial standards to comply with. NewsCorpse can lie, defame, demonise, vilify to its hearts content without regard to any standards whatsoever.

The only recourse aggrieved people have is the costly course of seeking redress through the courts.

Maybe it's time to make laws regarding impartiality and bias that apply to 'commercial' media groups in the same way that the law applies to the ABC and SBS. http://fairdinkumnewschat.b1.jcink.com/uploads/fairdinkumnewschat/lbill.gif

Those laws sure don't stop ALPBC or SBS from being biased so why would they work with "commercial" media groups.

At any rate, even you have said in the past that "Newscorpse" sometimes backs Labor. And if you take a good "unblinkered" look at the "stories" they run it is easy to find plenty with a strong left wing lean to them.

The ABC used to be half decent, it is now so full of left-wing bias that many older viewers avoid their channels - if you have not seen the ABC's indoctrination of small children check out the crap the ABC tries to fill children's heads with in the 'What is Diversity?' thread.

Most of the garbage was pulled after numerous complaints.
