QUOTE (scepo @ Apr 16 2018, 04:24 PM)
And what is wrong Bill, with putting the blame squarely where it belongs?

Go back in history, way before OIL, and the only time there has been peace in the region is when brutal, barbaric dictators have had their jack boots firmly across the throats any opposition.

That Bill is the ISLAMIC way.  http://fairdinkumnewschat.b1.jcink.com/uploads/fairdinkumnewschat/smiley_don_t_know.gif

Always has been and always will be.

Yes, the west and Russia should just keep out of it and let them slaughter themselves.

Hi scepo
Not just the ISLAMIC way scepo. It the way of all 'empire builders'.

Back in the days when the bears were bad, it was the done thing for 'empire builders' to invade a country, kill it's males, rape its women, enslave its people and plunder its resources.

As the 'empire builders' became more sophisticated, they moved on to 'colonise' countries. The results were the same but they could pretend that they were doing 'good' for the natives in spite of pursuing exactly the same objectives.

Moving right along - as colonisation' became a dirty word, the 'empire builders' opted to support brutal dictators who would oppress their own people for a fee, with the same result of allowing the 'empire builders' to continue to plunder the resources of the host country.

But the natives were getting restless. They had heard about this thing called 'democracy' where they got to control their own country for their own benefit, so they had elections, and elected governments to take control of their resources for the benefit of the people.

Now that was a real problem for the 'empire builders' who for centuries had plundered the weak with gay abandon.

Don't like the government ? Not a problem for the 'empire builders'. Simply change it.

It's a process called 'regime change' scepo - whereby the 'empire builders' encourage protests, finance insurrections, and arm 'rebels' in a proxy war to overthrow the uppity government.

That's what's been happening since the end of WW2 across the world. In South America, Africa, South East Asia and the Middle East.

The interwebby thing has changed everything now. News travels fast and BS can be detected instantly, (well almost instantly http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/biggrin.gif ).

The next frontier for the 'empire builders' are Free Trade Agreements that circumvent the will of native peoples, using 'the law' to oppress and enslave.

Welcome to the 21st century, where black is white, up is down, and Donald Trump doesn't pay prostitutes to pee on his bed. http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/biggrin.gif http://fairdinkumnewschat.b1.jcink.com/uploads/fairdinkumnewschat/lbill.gif

Sounds an awful lot like what your progressive mates in the US and worldwide for that matter are attempting to do to the Trump administration. http://fairdinkumnewschat.b1.jcink.com/uploads/fairdinkumnewschat/smiley_don_t_know.gif

Partly true Bill. But no other religion that I know of has brutal, barbaric jihad at it's core. And no other "Empire Builders" that I know of take/have taken barbaric brutality to the extent that Islam always has.

Has anyone else noticed that the 'chemical attacks on Douima' has been replaced on the MSM news cycle by the "Russia launches cyber attacks against the West'.

Not even our ABC or the Guardian are running stories. So much for the 'lefty press' that we hear so much about. http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/biggrin.gif

This could be the reason:

American and British Reporters Reach Douma, Syria: Discover There Was NO Chemical Weapons Attack

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-04-16/first-western-journalist-syrian-hospital-which-treated-chemical-weapons-victims

Forget what the Syrian government or the Ruskies say.

The first Western journalist has interviewed doctors at the hospital in Douma, Syria which supposedly treated chemical weapons victims and is announcing what really happened.

In the following 1-minute clip, award-winning journalist Robert Fisk – writer for Britain’s Independent for almost 30 years – explains that the video of victims struggling to breathe are real, but that they have nothing to do with a chemical weapons attack:

Here’s a transcript:

I’ve just been in the town of Douma. I found the clinic where the film of the children frothing at the mouth and having water thrown at them was made.

And I spoke to the hospital doctor, who actually spoke very good English. And he told me that the video is real. But they’re not suffering from gas poisoning.

They’re suffering from hypoxia (i.e. insufficient of oxygen) because of the amount of dust in the tunnels in which they live. All through the year people in the Douma area have been living beneath their own homes, in tunnels and basements.

And that night there was a shelling by the Syrian army and the Russian air force. And it produced a huge amount of dust and debris in the streets. And many people found it difficult to breathe.

And when they reached the clinic according to the doctor, someone shouted “gas” … and they panicked.

This is the story of a town called Douma, a ravaged, stinking place of smashed apartment blocks — and of an underground clinic whose images of suffering allowed three of the Western world’s most powerful nations to bomb Syria last week. There’s even a friendly doctor in a green coat who, when I track him down in the very same clinic, cheerfully tells me that the ‘gas’ videotape which horrified the world – despite all the doubters – is perfectly genuine.

The same 58-year old senior Syrian doctor then adds something profoundly uncomfortable: the patients, he says, were overcome not by gas but by oxygen starvation in the rubbish-filled tunnels and basements in which they lived, on a night of wind and heavy shelling that stirred up a dust storm.

As Dr Assim Rahaibani announces this extraordinary conclusion, it is worth observing that he is by his own admission not an eye witness himself and, as he speaks good English, he refers twice to the jihadi gunmen of Jaish el-Islam [the Army of Islam] in Douma as “terrorists” – the regime’s word for their enemies, and a term used by many people across Syria.

This is not the only story in Douma. There are the many people I talked amid the ruins of the town who said they had “never believed in” gas stories – which were usually put about, they claimed, by the armed Islamist groups. These particular jihadis survived under a blizzard of shellfire by living in other’s people’s homes and in vast, wide tunnels with underground roads carved through the living rock by prisoners with pick-axes on three levels beneath the town.

I walked across this town quite freely yesterday without soldier, policeman or minder to haunt my footsteps, just two Syrian friends, a camera and a notebook.

It was a short walk to Dr Rahaibani. From the door of his subterranean clinic – “Point 200,” it is called, in the weird geology of this partly-underground city – is a corridor leading downhill where he showed me his lowly hospital and the few beds where a small girl was crying as nurses treated a cut above her eye.

“I was with my family in the basement of my home three hundred metres from here on the night but all the doctors know what happened. There was a lot of shelling [by government forces] and aircraft were always over Douma at night — but on this night, there was wind and huge dust clouds began to come into the basements and cellars where people lived. People began to arrive here suffering from hypoxia, oxygen loss. Then someone at the door, a ‘White Helmet’, shouted ‘Gas!”, and a panic began. People started throwing water over each other. Yes, the video was filmed here, it is genuine, but what you see are people suffering from hypoxia – not gas poisoning.”

Update 2:

American reporter Pearson Sharp says the same thing, that none of the local residents heard anything about a chemical weapons attack, and the locals said that the Islamic terrorists faked the attack in order to create enough chaos and confusion that they could slip out of town

I can't vouch for OAN (One America News) but Robert Fish would be the most respected Middle East journalist over the last 50 years.

No doubt we'll hear more as time goes by.

I have doubted the supposed chemical attacks, and Bill's post seems to support that, the fact that the supposed chemical attack was not inspected before the missiles were fired has me doubting the West's true intentions.

Thanks for posting this Bill.

Trump is a very dangerous man, his actions may well lead to another world war - one that could destroy the world. The actions of the US, UK, and France is an act of aggression.

Shame that Trump didn't stick with his words before being elected.

Trump also had attacked Hillary Clinton, his Democratic opponent for president, in the days before the November 2016 election, claiming she planned to attack Syria if she was elected and suggesting that would be a bad idea: “We’re spending $6 trillion dollars on wars in the Middle East, while our own country falls into total disrepair,” he said in a statement released on his website. “Now Hillary wants to start a shooting war in Syria, in conflict with a nuclear-armed Russia, which could lead to World War 3.”

Russian warships are now on their way to protect Russian interests.

Russia Is Taking Over Syria’s Oil And Gas.

If finally happened…

In accordance with an energy cooperation framework agreement signed in late January, Russia will have exclusive rights to produce oil and gas in Syria.

The agreement goes significantly beyond that, stipulating the modalities of the rehabilitation of damaged rigs and infrastructure, energy advisory support, and training a new generation of Syrian oilmen. Still, the main international aspect and the key piece of this move is the final and unconditional consolidation of Russian interests in the Middle East.

Before the onset of the blood-drenched Civil War, Syrian oil production wavered around 380,000 barrels per day. It has declined for some time then, since its all-time peak production rate of 677,000 barrels per day in 2002. Although the Islamic State was allegedly driven underground, the current output still stands at a devastating 14–15,000 barrels per day.

As for gas, the production decline proved to be lower (it fell from 8 BCm/year to 3.5 BCm/year) due to its greater significance within the domestic economy. 90 percent of the produced gas in Syria was used for electricity production (as opposed to oil, which was either refined domestically or exported), and in view of this, the government took extra care to retake gas fields first as the prospects of reconquest became viable enough.

As for the White Helmets, some suggest that they are no more than quote - Roger Waters "a 'fake organization' that prompted propaganda for 'jihadists and terrorists' ".

Hi Bill, I enjoyed reading your piece on "empire builders". It rings true in a number of political scenarios. However, it fails to acknowledge what scepo describes as the "Islamic way".

How else can you describe the fundamentalist regime of Ayatollah Khomeini, the Islamic Brotherhood's grasp of power (albeit fleeting) in Egypt via Mohammed Morsi and the increasing influence of Islamic fundamentalists and extremists in Indonesia. The list goes on but I think you would get the picture.

Are these instances (and others) "empire builders" or the "Islamic way"?

Zero Hedge is an English-language financial blog that aggregates news and presents editorial opinions from original and outside sources. The news portion of the site is written by a group of editors who collectively write under the pseudonym "Tyler Durden" (a character from the novel and film Fight Club).
Zero Hedge's content has been classified as "alt-right",[3] anti-establishment, conspiratorial, and economically pessimistic,[4][5] and has been criticized for presenting extreme and sometimes pro-Russian views.

Fancy you posting a story from an alt right (fascist) source. http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/rolleyes.gif http://fairdinkumnewschat.b1.jcink.com/uploads/fairdinkumnewschat/smiley_don_t_know.gif

As for Robert Fisk (Fish http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/wink.gif http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/biggrin.gif ) You may have a high opinion of him, and you may even be right, but I am not convinced.

Why would Russia and the Syrian government not lot the useless UN inspectors to the site of the alleged chemical attack for days? http://fairdinkumnewschat.b1.jcink.com/uploads/fairdinkumnewschat/smiley_don_t_know.gif http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/rolleyes.gif

Hi scepo
I didn't vouch for the source (Zero Hedge), but the Robert Fish http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/biggrin.gif repost was significant. I was more concerned about the YouTube video from OAN.

I have since seen the original article by Fisk on the Independent, and it's identical to the Zero Hedge repost.

The U.N. inspectors were supposed to arrive in Douma on Saturday morning, butt the air strikes put it on hold. Apparently, they are there now (Wednesday) so we'll have to wait for their report.

The accusations and denials, by both sides, will continue for a while, but Vlad and the Ayatollah are not impressed with May, Trump, and Macron.

If we are to believe the propaganda, ISIS has been defeated in Syria.......so there is no longer any need for the last reported 2,000 U.S. military personel stationed there. http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/biggrin.gif

What's the chance that Assad will call for the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. and U.K. military advisors from Syria ? Now that could be interesting because, if they decide to stay, the U.S,. will have to admit that they are conducting an undeclared war in contravention of international law against a sovereign country - Syria.
