Salim Mehajer back behind bars
Former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has been arrested after allegedly breaching his bail conditions.
Mehajer, 31, was arrested at Sydney's Bankstown Police Station at 10:00am this morning.
It is alleged Mehajer used two mobile phones, in breach of his bail conditions.
He faced Bankstown Local Court today where he was refused bail and is due to face court again on June 6.
Mehajer was on bail over allegations that he staged a car accident in October 2017 to avoid appearing in court over charges that he assaulted a taxi driver.
In March, he was sentenced to a three-year good behaviour bond and ordered to undergo counselling after pleading guilty to assaulting the taxi driver.
Mehajer admitted causing injury to the driver's face when he threw an EFTPOS machine at him.
He also pleaded guilty to damaging a woman's phone after she filmed him outside The Star Casino in April last year.
Last month he was convicted of multiple counts of electoral fraud during the 2012 Auburn Council elections, after a Sydney magistrate found he acted in a "joint criminal enterprise" with his sister to influence the outcome of the election.
