Who, in the late '50s, sought liberation from the unwanted attention of an intellectually challenged Eros?

The rather cryptic question is derived from the chorus of the song "Stupid Cupid", recorded by Connie Francis in 1958.

The chorus -
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me

Flin and Alicia both knew this one with Flin scoring a bonus for answering within a few hours of the question being posted. Alicia also scores a bonus for noting that Maureen Evans did a cover of the song, also in 1958, on the Embassy label for sale at Woolworths. She also noted that the song's co-writer, Neil Sedaka, recorded the song later.

Here are Connie Francis and Maureen Evans.
